Retreat- Master Bedroom
Our bedroom is our sanctuary. It’s where we go to rest, to read, and to get away from the hectic pace of our daily lives. So it’s important that we do what we can to make our bedrooms a place of comfort that will appeal to all of our senses.
When decorating your bedroom, keep all of your senses in mind, and find ways to appeal to all of your senses. If you do that, your bedroom will definitely become your favorite room in your house.
1. Appeal to your sense of sight;
We all want our bedrooms to be visually stunning. But don’t just be satisfied with “pretty”. Instead, fill your bedroom with your favorite items. Do you have a favorite piece of artwork? Rather than putting it in the living room, place it in your bedroom so that you can enjoy it at the end of the day. Use your favorite colors as the palette for your bedroom. Place your favorite comfy chair in your bedroom. Use a variety of textures in your fabrics to make the room more interesting. Make your bedroom a place that goes beyond “pretty”. Make it a room that is a true reflection of you and the things you enjoy.
2. Appeal to your sense of touch;
Fill your room with fabrics that feel good and that calms you. Use good-quality, high thread count sheets that are soft to the touch and that envelope you when you sleep. Find a super-soft, luxurious throw that you can cuddle with for your chair. Using a variety of textures in your fabrics will also appeal to your sense of touch.
3. Appeal to your sense of smell;
Add a few scented candles to your room, or lightly spray your sheets with a scented linen spray. Certain scents, such as lavender and vanilla, have been shown to be relaxing and reduce stress.
4. Appeal to your sense of hearing;
Today, so many people have televisions in their bedrooms, and then they wonder why they can’t find rest and relaxation. Televisions create noise and stress, and don’t give us that needed break from the “real” world. Instead, opt for some calming music that appeals to you, whether it’s classic rock, soothing instrumental, classical, or maybe some opera music . You could also try a CD of nature sounds.
5. Appeal to your sense of taste;
Most of us would consider putting out a bowl of chocolates on the living room coffee table for our guests, but why should they be the only ones to indulge in this little luxury? And we generally expect a chocolate on our pillow when staying at nice hotels. So why don’t we treat ourselves when we’re home? Consider keeping a small container on your bedside table with your favorite chocolates or treats. That way, as you're snuggling with your comfy throw, drinking your coffee, and reading your favorite book, you can treat yourself to a little something yummy as well.
